Overlapping #5, 2009

Pencil and pastel color on semitransparent polyester paper
300 x 246 cm

Overlapping #5 belongs to the series of Overlapping drawings that aim to a particular experience of perception and unstability of vision by drawing on several overlayered sheets of semitransparent paper. In this case, Overlapping #5 presents an interplay of gradations of lines and colors within a rectangle. Lacking a regular contour, it is difficult to optically trace its outline, as every colored area and shade seems to be constantly discontinued, and affected by displacement or rotation. The sensation of depth and that of a blurred and unstable vision, grows as we watch the image, leading to a more active rather than a passive perception.
